COLLAGE

Course: ART102 - 2D Foundations

Task: This project challenges you to create a collage using only materials that are readily available to you–whether found in your studio, home, classroom, or even the recycling bin. The goal is to explore composition, texture, and conceptual meaning through unconventional materials. Consider how discarded or overlooked materials can be repurposed into a cohesive and meaningful artwork.

Requirements: Your collage must be at least 11” x 14” but can be larger. Use found materials – these may include paper scraps, fabric, paint rags, dried paint skins, tape, packaging, old sketches, magazine clippings, thread, wire, receipts, coupons, etc. You may also use paint, markers, etc., to add drawn elements to your collage. The final piece should be securely assembled– use glue, stitching, or any method that ensures durability and archivalness. There should be an intentional composition– consider balance, layering, contrast, and movement in your arrangement. Your work must include at least three different types of materials to encourage variety in texture and depth. Your college should have a title that reflects its theme or process.
